Catalog Description: This advanced ensemble is open to any student grade 10-12 who meets the appropriate
performance level. The Symphonic Band focuses on advanced wind literature and may, at times, perform full orchestral
works with the Symphonic Orchestra. In addition to advanced wind band technique and advanced literature, students will
also be expected to complete a survey music history curriculum.
Lectures: You must attend all the lectures. Anything mentioned in a lecture may be on the exams, including material that
is not in any of the readings. If you miss a lecture, it is your responsibility to find out what was covered. All the lectures
have handouts. They are intended to spare you from having to write down every diagram and term mentioned in the
lecture; they are not a substitute for attending the lecture and taking notes.
Rehearsals: Also required. Rehearsals are an integral aspect of the performing art curriculum. The main purpose of the
rehearsal is to coordinate the musical phrasing, style, tempo, dynamics, intonation, and articulation with the other
musicians. It is not appropriate to learn notes or rhythms at a full ensemble rehearsal, that work is to be done before the
