Catalog Description: This advanced ensemble is open to any RHS student who meets the appropriate performance level. The Concert Orchestra focuses on developmental string literature. In addition to orchestral technique and literature, students will also be expected to complete a survey music theory curriculum.
Lectures: You must attend all the lectures. Anything mentioned in a lecture may be on the exams, including material that
is not in any of the readings. If you miss a lecture, it is your responsibility to find out what was covered. All the lectures
have handouts. They are intended to spare you from having to write down every diagram and term mentioned in the
lecture; they are not a substitute for attending the lecture and taking notes.
Rehearsals: Also required. Rehearsals are an integral aspect of the performing art curriculum. The main purpose of the
rehearsal is to coordinate the musical phrasing, style, tempo, dynamics, intonation, and articulation with the other
musicians. It is not appropriate to learn notes or rhythms at a full ensemble rehearsal, that work is to be done before the
" Music can change the world because it can change people."
